The weather was turning from 40’s to the 70’s and we were looking forward to getting to take our rain jackets off. The day looked clear as well which meant good views. Our plan for the day was to ride the Banff Gondola and then explore the city of Banff a bit more.

We have been to a handful of US national parks but Kootenay National Park, British Colombia was our first in Canada and there were some definite differences. The scenery was beautiful! The folks that live in those parts are given a high bar for other places to match.
Justin and I aren’t sure if our debacle of the day was attributed to us getting older and less aware, being preoccupied with farm things prior to the trip or just carelessness. I think all these things combined with a bit of bad luck and foolish systems were to blame. Let me begin to explain…
After a long travel afternoon the previous day we landed at Bonners Ferry “Boundary County Fairgrounds”. We were able to camp there for the night for free (allowed for up to 72 hours). It was actually a really neat place!
