We got lucky this year and got to celebrate the New Year twice! Once with family and another time with friends. We had been deprived of friends and family for so long we decided to pour as many as we could to Crow Farm at once!

Before we bought Crow Farm we were told that flooding sometimes happens here. The flood plane goes into the hayfields a bit but doesn’t reach the house. It’s one thing to see pictures and hear stories, it’s another thing to actually see it with your own eyes.

You all might remember that a while back we tried to get our sweet piggy Curly pregnant so we could raise some little piglets on the farm. Well, it did not go well, to put it lightly and we decided we needed to be happy with other alternative options for piggies. We decided it would be best to pass Mercy, our other female piggy, onto a new home and try finding a little Kunekune piglet to buy.

The nice thing about making a mistake last year and buying a straight run of ducklings (ending up with only one female) was that we got to get another whole batch at the end of summer. This time I bought through Metzer Farms online who offered pre-sexed ducklings of the breeds of my choosing. I was more than willing to pay the extra money to have them send me only females!

People own pigs for a variety of reasons but mainly people raise pigs for meat. We chose to raise ours as pets! Growing up I had a pig for a short time and it made quite an impression on me. I always hoped that when I grew up and got a place of my own that I would have another piggy in my life. Well, when we moved to Crow Farm and Justin happened to make a comment about being open to the possibility of owning a pig I finally had the opportunity. Enter Curly.

There are many new places we are discovering as we explore the local area. Of course we had to find the local berry places to pick from. Our strawberry plants produce in late summer and into fall at Crow Farm. In the beginning of spring we searched and found a place where we could pick strawberries.
