Okay, so we didn’t actually go on the Islands! The boats were all cancelled due to the crazy winds plus it was pretty pricy. However, the visitor center had an overflowing amount of information for us to soak up. Just as we love and as it should be.

We arrived at this campground around dinner time through fierce winds and a rain storm. It was a weekend but we thought for sure the campground would be nearly empty due to the weather. We thought wrong.

Along our way we saw that there was a little Dutch village set among the grassy hills. Their sign boasted, “Solvang: Danish Capital of America.” It was actually larger than we thought, the downtown strip radiating outward to lengthy side streets. The buildings were just so quaint and beautiful we had to stop to take a peak.

The morning of our travel day out of San Diego we found that our hot water heater was not working! Not a huge deal right away (cold hair showers in the sink aren’t the most pleasant but also doable) but we wanted to stop by a dealer on the way if possible to get it looked at.

While in San Diego, Justin was introduced to a software company in which he fits the bill almost completely for. Still not sure what the future holds with this but this introduction led us to stay in San Diego at another friend’s house for a couple more days. Our friend lives in a cul-de-sac in Carlsbad so we were able to park outside his house during our stay.

While we were at Anzo-Borrego State Park Justin’s former coworker extended a very generous sweet offer to park in his driveway in San Diego for a bit. We had previously wiped Sand Diego off our travel list because for one, we had already explored it (though it was when our 5 year old was a baby) and because campgrounds were far from the city and/or pricey. But thanks to this kind offer, we decided to go to San Diego after all!

Off we went on the bumpy roads to the second largest state park in the US. I was glad that our oldest and I got some schooling done in the morning before we left because these roads were nauseating! Lucky for our little girl’s stuffed bunny, Bun Bun, she reaped the benefits of getting two new outfits out of the drive! One outfit made from yet another pair of pants and socks that have been destroyed and a bathing suit made from a piece of my old bathing suit.
